Tuesday Group Chairman MacArthur Resigns Over Healthcare Fallout

Rep. Tom MacArthur on Tuesday resigned as chair of the Tuesday Group — moderate Republicans — over fallout from the healthcare legislation that bore his name, The Hill reported.

House Republicans passed the MacArthur amendment of the American Health Care Act, crafted by the New Jersey Republican along with the chairman of the conservative Freedom Caucus, Rep. Mark Meadows.

Moderate Republicans were not thrilled. Come Tuesday, MacArthur had had enough.

“While some embraced my efforts as co-chairman, others have bristled. Clearly, our group is divided. Many in the Tuesday Group are eager to live up to our ideal of being problem-solvers, while others seem unwilling to compromise. The recent healthcare debate was illustrative,” The Hill quoted MacArthur on Tuesday.

“It’s clear that some in the Tuesday Group have different objectives and a different sense of governing than I do,” MacArthur said.
