News of the disappearance and subsequent death of Lane Graves, a toddler tragically killed by an alligator at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, rocked many parents to their foundation.
Though Disney had placed signage warning families to stay out of the water at the Seven Seas Lagoon — they did not specifically alert people to the presence of alligators.
Now, new information has surfaced that paints an even more grisly picture Lane Graves’ final moments. It also sheds light on a father, Matt Graves, who fought tooth and nail to save his 2-year-old son’s life.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Capt. Tom Wellons has revealed the conversation he shared with Matt Graves en route from the crime scene to a local hospital.
The injured father had to be treated for lacerations due to alligator bites.
Matt Graves reportedly described:
“How another gator attacked him as he fought for his son.”
Wellons said that Graves detailed the “horror he experienced” while fighting for his son’s life. His wife, Melissa, also reportedly ran into the water to try and save her son.

Graves is a former state wrestling champion. His friend, Jon Kneifl, described him as “tough as nails,” saying:
“Matt was a state champion wrestler and is tough as nails. I know he would do anything to try to help his son. He probably fought as hard as he could. I know Matt and he gave it everything he could.”
Recently, family, friends and members of the community showed an outpouring of grief at a wake for Lane Graves.
During which, Matt Graves spoke out about the tragic incident:
“Melissa and I continue to deal with the loss of our beloved boy, Lane, and are overwhelmed with the support and love we have received from family and friends in our community as well as from around the country.
We understand the public’s interest, but as we move forward this weekend, we ask for and appreciate the privacy we need to lay our son to rest. Neither Melissa, myself or anyone from our family will be speaking publicly; we simply cannot at this time.”
In light of the tragedy, Disney has put up warning signs about the presence of alligators, along with erecting fences.
