Americans Give 4 Powerful Reasons Kaepernick’s Excuse for Snubbing National Anthem Doesn’t Fly

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is taking a lot of heat for choosing to sit down during the National Anthem in a pre-season game on Friday night.

Kaepernick explained the reason he didn’t stand:

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.

There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Kaepernick’s controversial choice is making headlines everywhere and has been trending on Twitter all day:

And many Americans pointed out four reasons his excuse doesn’t quite connect with them.

1. Both of the parents who raised him are white:

2. He doesn’t understand what a police officer’s job is like:

3. He’d be hard-pressed to find another country that provides the same opportunity he’s had here:

4. This U.S. Marine is still standing for the National Anthem:

While Kaepernick doesn’t appear to be winning many battles with his justification for sitting out the anthem, some people have also pointed out that the football player gives time and resources to various charities. For example, he volunteers a great deal of his time helping children who have heart disease.

Kaepernick has already shown the world that he’s an activist and philanthropist in his own right, but this recent “stand” seems to be taking center stage for the time being.
