Charleston Shooter Dylann Roof Was Heading to the Shower When an Inmate Went Vigilante…

Accused murderer Dylann Roof disgusted law-abiding citizens in the country when he allegedly shot up a church in Charleston, South Carolina, killing nine black parishioners.

He went to jail and may face the death penalty, though his defense team is scrambling to take that option off of the table.

Life behind bars, thus far, has not been so rosy for the 22-year-old.

He was just beaten by a fellow inmate while he was preparing to take a shower.

The inmate, 25-year-old Dwayne Stafford, bolted from his cell as it lay open, using the brief window of time in which a guard was fetching toilet paper for another inmate.

Stafford rushed down the stairs and began beating on Dylann Roof, giving him multiple injuries.

No weapons were involved in the attack.

Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon Jr. spoke to CNN and praised the officers onsite, as well as elaborating on Roof’s injuries:

“The detention officer responded quickly and separated the two,” he said.

The injuries that Roof received are relatively minor — some bruising around the face and the back.

It appears he was struck with a fist and nothing more serious than that.”

However, Cannon did say that the incident was allowed to happen at all should act as a “wake-up call” to the prison staff:

“We do things day in and day out and they become routine and as a result of that (officers) become complacent.”

Roof’s trial is scheduled to begin January 17, 2017.
